8.11.10 Skatepark plan an opportunity missed GEP .
So another states member feels it should be a covered skatepark, cant he just let them get on with it. It has been long enough already and the last thing the skaters want now is yet another delay.

If you know your Tail Whips from your Frontside 180's then you'll welcome the news that Guernsey's skate park is a step closer to becoming a reality. For the last eight years, members of the Xtreme Sports Association have been pushing for a permanent home for their sport. And they're thrilled that plans for the park have given full permission by planners.The facility is due to be sited near Cambridge Park and could be finished by next Easter.

Deputy Mike O'Hara, chairman of the Guernsey Extreme Sports Association said initial investigations to provide a skate park began in April 2002 when it was hoped to have formed a skate park in the walled-in garden at Beau Sejour.

'Since then the Guernsey Extreme Sports Association has provided numerous temporary facilities throughout the Island, however they will now have a permanent home.
'It has always been the intention to create the Wembley of skate parks and to follow up with smaller satellite parks around the Island. We wish to thank the Environment Department for their assistance in helping us to develop the skate park along with the Culture and Leisure Department and in particular the staff at Beau Sejour whose knowledge of the area has been paramount in the planning process.'
Gravity Engineering Ltd are consultants and prime designers of the skate park. Deputy O'Hara says the finished skate park will match any design in the UK and throughout Europe.
The next steps are to fully price the park to determine the amount of funds that will be needed to complete the park. It is hoped that local companies will help by offering their services in kind.
The project has received its first sponsor. Zef Eisenberg has set the ball rolling with a donation of £20K. 'I know from my own days of Skate Boarding just how important it is to have this needed facility,' he said.
